This week, our astrological spotlight shines on the Euro 2020 qualifiers, which promise an entertaining weekend of football - and for astrology, too, as international matches,(for whatever reason) often
yield charts of a more volatile and less predictable nature. In our first featured match, hosted by Cyprus, visitors Scotland are tipped for victory. But with the odds only slightly in their favour. They are awarded Venus (Lady of the Ascendant) as their main significator, whilst Mars (Lord 7) represent opponents Cyprus. The Moon's applying opposition to Saturn, Lord 10 is a credible testimony for Scotland. Yet the applying sextile between Mars and the antiscion of Fortuna (at 29 Sagittarius 23) argues at least one goal for Cyprus. Scotland may have a minimal edge in this contest, but a draw seems a more likely outcome.
Wales are favoured to win their match against Azerbaijan, and the heavens seem to agree: The Moon's application to the 1st house cusp is a powerful testimony for the favourites. But the Moon also opposes Saturn, Lord 7, promising at least one goal for hosts Azerbaijan. The Moon next applies to square the antscion of Fortuna (at 21 Libra 23); another testimony for Azerbaijan but, this aspect being beyond the usual orb of influence allowed for a 90 minute football match, the opportunity for a second goal is most likely should the match go into extra time. Verdict: Azerbaijan should score at least one goal, and may be able to capitalise on any extra time to challenge the visitor's dominance of the match, but the Moon's application to the angle of the Ascendant is one of the strongest possible testimonies in favour of victory for Wales and will be difficult to beat.
In Saturday afternoon's fixture between hosts Northern Ireland and the Netherlands, the Moon once again applies to the angle of the ascendant, promising victory for the visiting favourites. However, the Moon's application to oppose Saturn and her subsequent application to square the antiscion of Fortuna (at 19 Libra 48) promise a spirited defence from hosts Northern Ireland. The Netherlands are the likely winners, but Northern Ireland will prove a danger to their ambitions right up until the final whistle.
Unsurprisingly, the English bookmakers favour England but, when the natural bias of the home betting crowd is taken out of the equation, this may prove a far closer game than expected. Jupiter is strong in his own sign of Sagittarius and exactly conjunct the 7th house cusp, strengthening the position of the underdogs. Jupiter (Lord 7) applies to sextile Fortuna, another testimony in for the underdogs. If England truly are the favourites, as the bookie's odds suggest, this match seems unlikely to go their way. It will be the team represented by the 7th house, Kosovo, who will carry the day.
Our final fixture, scheduled for this Monday, may also augur a surprising result: Denmark are favourites, signified by the Sun (the Moon's dispositor) whilst Saturn represents the Republic of Ireland. Strongly placed in his own sign of Capricorn, and conjunct the angle of the 7th house, Saturn is an able ally for the cause of Ireland, whilst the Moon, with her opposition to the antiscion of Mercury (Lord 4, victory for the underdogs) at 18 Aquarius also seems to favour the home side. Prediction: Republic of Ireland to win.
