The bookies' predictions favour England as odds-on winners of this third-place clash in Nice, but Sweden's recent
performance promises that they will go all out to deny the favourites victory.
Mars (Lord 1) and Mercury (Lord 10) represent England, whilst opponents Sweden have Venus (Lady of the 7th) and Jupiter (Lord 4, strong in his own sign of Sagittarius) as their significators.
For England, the Moon's placement just inside the 10th house (victory for the favourites) is a powerful testimony, indicating that the flow of events (the Moon) inclines towards victory for England. By way of supporting testimony, Mars, (Lord 1, England) applies to a conjunction with Mercury (Lord 10, success). Although we might expect this aspect to be separating, because Mercury is usually the faster moving planet, here Mercury is about to station retrograde, so this aspect will perfect.
The strongest card which has been dealt to opponents Sweden is the conjunction between the antiscion of Jupiter, Lord 4 (at 13 Capricorn 36) and Fortuna. However, in "Sports Astrology", John Frawley notes that aspects from Fortuna to Lords 4 or 10 are rarely strong enough to win a contest on their own, so we must look for other supporting testimonies. The antiscion of Mercury (Lord 10) at 25 Taurus 37 in the 7th house could show victory going to Sweden, but the orb, at almost 5 degrees is rather wide; more convincing would be an orb of 1-2 degrees. Even considered together, these testimonies are unlikely to be sufficient to counteract England's advantageous placement of the Moon in the 10th house. Allowing for a certain amount of bias from this self-confessed supporter of the Lionesses, the heavens appear to more strongly favour England's cause than that of Sweden.
