The Winter Solstice weekend opens with a battle between Manchester City, and visiting team Leicester City The Moon always has a pivotal role in contest charts, marking the progress of events during the match. However, this means that, when she rules either the 1st of 7th house, her dispositor must stand in as the significator for the team concerned. As Cancer is on the cusp of the 1st house, and the Moon is in Scorpio, bookies' favourites Manchester City are signified by the Moon's dispositor, Mars, strongly placed in his own sign at 21 Scorpio 29. Saturn, equally well placed in his own sign of Capricorn directly on the 7th house cusp represents rivals Leicester City. The strength of both team's significators promises a lively match in which both teams might be expected to score. But who will win? The applying opposition from Mars (Manchester City) to Fortuna augurs an early lead for the favourites, consolidated, probably in extra time, by the conjunction between Mars and the antiscion of Venus (Fortuna's dispositor) at 28 Scorpio 13: Manchester City to win, but expect to see some spirited opposition from Leicester City.
A successful weekend then,
for Manchester City, but what of the fortunes of their local rivals Manchester United? They too are favourably tipped by the pundits for their away game against Watford at Vicarage Road - but do the heavens concur? Their main significator, Mercury (Lord 1) is not well placed in Sagittarius, sign of his detriment and applying to the cusp of the unfortunate 8th house. But Jupiter, who as Lord 7, lends his support to Watford's cause is in even worse condition, placed in the 8th house in Capricorn the sign of his fall, applying to a conjunction with the pernicious South Node and also afflicted by combustion (close proximity to the Sun) . Yet, as is often the case with contest charts, it is not the condition of the main significators which point us to the victors, but the progress of the Moon: Her immediate application to oppose Fortuna (at 14 Aries 34) suggests an early lead for Watford, but the following sextile to Saturn (Lord 10, victory for the favourites) and conjunction with Mars (Fortuna's dispositor) argue strongly for a victory for United.
Over to the Championship League for our last featured game this Solstice Sunday, an early lunchtime fixture between Sheffield Wednesday and Bristol City. Jupiter represents the favourites Sheffield Wednesday, in the sign of his fall (Capricorn) and besieged by the South Node and also the Sun, which afflicts him by combustion. He is placed in the 10th house, but intercepted. Mercury (Lord 7) in the sign of his detriment, lends what support he can to the cause of Bristol City. The only aspect of significance is not strong enough to produce a convincing result: The Moon's applying conjunction to the antiscion of Fortuna (at 18 Scorpio 49) inclines towards a victory for the favourites, but is less conclusive than if the conjunction was to Fortuna herself. A draw is a possibility, but a low-scoring win for Sheffield Wednesday is the more likely result.
